Suggestions to Speed Summer Travelers through Airport Security

Golf Gear
Before flying, clean off clubs to prevent possibly triggering baggage screening equipment (from fertilizer residue). Remember to pack clubs in a travel bag and consider leaving it unlocked.

Camp Gear
Be sure to check the camp’s suggested supply list against the Transportaton Security Administration prohibited items list to avoid headaches at security checkpoints. Items like pocket knives and pointed-tip scissors are not permitted in carry-on luggage. Also, parents and camp counselors can call ahead to airlines for permission to escort children to and from gates. Children under 18 are not required to travel with identification.

Fourth of July Celebration
Fireworks are not allowed on airplanes, in checked or carry-on baggage for safety and security reasons.

Dear Big Kahuna,

Which beach is the best beach in Hawaii?
— Wants to know, Idaho.

Dear Wants,

Your question is such a good one that we are going to open it up to the world.

BK invites our readers to let their voices be heard. We will compile the winning list of beaches, announce the results here, and post the results online in our new “10 Best” section.

Here’s how to stand up and make sure your beach is counted:
Send us the name of your favorite beach in Hawaii by sending the Big Kahuna an email (click on the blue Big Kahuna link below).

We cannot guarantee that your favorite beach will appear in the 10 Best list, but we can guarantee that we will not be surprised if people are evangelical about their favorite beach in the islands. We invite you to tell us about your favorite beach, too. We’d love to hear why you believe your favorite beach is one of the best in the islands, if not in the world.

Mahalo!
Big Kahuna
