Click It or Ticket Law

Have a happy vacation: obey the traffic laws. Nothing spoils a day, vacation or otherwise, like getting a traffic citation, and tourists in Hawaii seem to do things on the road they would never do at home.

Buckle up: “Click It or Ticket” is a program recently instituted to enforce the mandatory seat belt usage law. The police will pull you over for this alone, and the first-time fine is $67.00.

Watch your speedometer: Wide open roads and frequently changing speed limits make it easy to accidentally speed here.

A beautiful vista is not a reason to suddenly come to a near-complete stop in the middle of the road. Wait until you come to a scenic turnout or driveway. It’s better to drive a little farther and come back than be the cause of a rear-end collision.
