My wife and I are going to be in Honolulu for a week on business. We’ve never been to Hawaii before and we thought it would be fun to go someplace quiet away from the city for the weekend and maybe get some surfing lessons. Does such a place exist?

The place you imagine does exist on the North Shore of Oahu. It’s called Turtle Bay Resort. The North Shore has some of the most legendary surfing spots in the world: Sunset Beach, the Banzai Pipeline, and Waimea Bay.
You can get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Honolulu to enjoy miles of white sand beach and forests of ironwood, or just veg out by the beautifully landscaped pool. If you feel like being pampered you can try a treatment at Spa Luana.
To fulfill your surfing fantasy, the Hans Hedemann Surf School at Turtle Bay Resort is a full-service surfing school that provides surfboards, equipment, instructors and repeat classes for all levels of surfing: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Instructors are available for private and group lessons. The resort also has a free surf clinic available to hotel guests. Located at the main pool, this 20-minute land lesson introduces guests to surfing. Guests learn proper paddling technique, turning the surfboard, maneuvering waves and positioning on the board. Instructors also teach guests proper water safety and etiquette.
Turtle Bay is located on the Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku (on the North Shore of Oahu). It’s about a one hour and fifteen-minute drive from the airport.
