Love Stories of Hawaii – Never Say Never

Marriage
A Maui Love Story
Dedicated to Shannon

Submitted by Craig

It started back in a small eastern Washington college in Cheney, WA. And the girl’s name was Shannon Medeck. I was on the shy side, to the point of being introvert. I was an older student first doing a stint in the U.S. Marines. The first time I laid my eyes on her was like — wow, this could be the one. Although I didn’t have the courage to ask her out at first, there wasn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her, like drive her home to visit her family or rescue her car in the middle of the night. I was smitten for her, although I didn’t know it. Over the years we drifted in and out of each other’s lives. I asked her out to an Elton John concert after I graduated. She readily accepted. Well, I ended up on the west side of the state and she in the east. And out of the blue, she called and, after a whirlwind romance, I dropped to one knee and proposed to her. It was then time for both parents to meet, and after a suggestion that we go to an island to get married, it was then laughed off and quickly forgotten. But alas, as most wedding plans go, there were battles and skirmishes to be argued over. An idea that was long forgotten was reestablished and plans were quickly made for the wedding in Maui. While the weeks and months went by, it was then trip time. And from the moment we landed to the moment we left, it was a nonstop delight of friendly faces and places. Since the time we said our vows to this day, I will always suggest Hawaii as a wedding option. And I know that one couple has taken me up on it. So if you want a trip of a lifetime for any reason choose Paradise on earth — Hawaii. Aloha, Craig and Shannon Smith
