Dedicated to A pretty girl from San Francisco
Submitted by Austin
Around this time of the year my mind starts to wander a bit and I reflect about my time in Hawaii when I was in the Army. I was young of course only being 20 and having only two more months left on my enlistment. I had a three day pass and decided to spent the time down on Waikiki. On the second morning bright and early while walking on the beach a very pretty girl was approaching me. I said good morning to her and she replied the same with a big smile. I asked her if she would like company on her walk and she said yes. We seemed to enjoy each others company and actually spent the day on the beach talking and enjoying the day. Late in the afternoon I asked her if she would like to go out with me for dinner. She said yes and also she was going home the next day to California. I said I would pick her at her hotel at 7. When I arrived and knocked on her door another girl answered and told me she had gone out to dinner with another guy. Truly I was very dissapointed and this was the first time I had ever been stood up. Of course I got over it and chalked it up to another experience. Two months later after I had gotten out of the Army I received a letter from this girl appologizing for that last evening we were to go out. I was annoyed and threw the letter away along with the return address. Strange although it has been over 55 years ago when this happened I still think of her and what might have been. I sometimes hope she still thinks of me.
