My Dearest,
I will send this letter, written just one year after we met on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii care of your cousin – who promises me that you will receive it. It hurts me to know that your father has been keeping my correspondence from you in the hopes of keeping us apart. He may think that we are far too young to have fallen in love, but I know in the deepest part of my heart that a love like ours happens just once in a lifetime.
Rumors are spreading that the war will be over soon. This war will be the war to end all wars and bring peace to the world. When I make my way back home I will start that business I was telling you about. I know your father (and everyone else I’ve told) thinks the idea of microcomputers is ludicrous, but just knowing that you have faith in my dream, keeps me alive. I will prove your father wrong and one day buy you anything you desire. You have looked beyond my poor upbringing, and seen my potential and for that I shall never forget.
I long for the day when we can be together again. At dusk, on every February 14th that passes, I will continue to walk our special beach in Hawaii. One day, I know I’ll look into your eyes and feel home.
