![]() Obtaining a Marriage LicenseEven in Hawaii, many couples have traditional weddings in churches. Some choose to be married on the beach at sunset, or in a botanical garden. Others have somewhat less traditional weddings by exchanging vows while sky diving, in a glider plane, scuba diving, on a boat, at the summit of a volcano, on horseback, or just about anywhere else their imagination takes them. However you decide to tie the knot, you need a marriage license to make it official. Spontaneous couples are glad to learn that Hawaii requires no waiting period to obtain a marriage license, but both the bride and groom must be present. You must be at least 19 years of age and provide proof of age, such as a valid driver's license, a photo ID, or passport. The marriage license fee is $50 in cash (no checks) and is valid for 30 days. There is no residence, citizenship, or blood test requirement. The ceremony must be performed by an official licensed by the State of Hawaii.
