If you've been curious about the names of the exotic flora that seem to envelop the Hawaiian Islands, Lyon Arboretum on Oahu is the place to go. Every imaginable kind of tropical flower, plant and tree is exhibited in this enchanting public garden set deep in the lush folds of Manoa Valley. Wear walking shoes and stroll up a stone road through dense forests, where you'll hear only the wind and the birds. With 193 acres and several gardens to explore, you'll feel like you have this paradise all to yourself. Drive north on University Avenue, which turns into Oahu Avenue after you pass the UH campus. Pass East Manoa Road, then turn right onto Manoa Road. Signs will first direct you to Paradise Park, then to Lyon Arboretum. © Best Places Hawaii, 1995-2008. All rights reserved. |
