9-11 Inspires Love Story,
Giving New York Couple A Hawaiian Honeymoon
Postponed for 30 Years
Honolulu, HI - July 11, 2002 - Best Places Hawaii, home of The Hawaii State Vacation Planner (www.bestplaceshawaii.com) proudly announces the arrival of the winners for the 2001 "Love Stories of Hawaii" promotion. When we asked Lu Pierro of Asbury, New Jersey what compelled her to enter the "Love Stories of Hawaii" contest, she told us, "It was September 12th, 2001 and I was sitting at my computer and thought about how much I am grateful for my husband and for my family. Disasters make one grateful for the ones they hold close." After 30 years of marriage and Lu's desire to make something positive out of such a tragedy, the couple will finally get to experience the real "paradise" of the Hawaiian Islands. Lu and her husband John will be arriving on the island of Kauai July 20th at 3:23pm (Hawaiian flight # 531) and staying for a week at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort. All travel arrangements are compliments of Pleasant Holidays.
Lu dedicated her winning story "Our Hawaiian Adventure: Paradise is a State of Mind" to her husband John. Unable to afford an actual Hawaiian honeymoon, Lu told her husband to pack his bag with swim trunks and suntan lotion and surprised John with a luxurious hotel room in New York City that she and her girlfriends turned into a Hawaii Wonderland. She made all of the arrangements, from the hotel receptionist greeting them with the word "Aloha" to having the room filled with hundreds of paper flowers, videos of the different wonders of Hawaii, an exotic flower bouquet and a basket of tropical fruit. Upon entering the room, Lu put her arms around her new husband and said, "Being with you anywhere is paradise."
The annual contest begins, ends, and restarts every Valentine's Day, February 14th. Each year, Best Places Hawaii selects two winning love stories to receive round trip air-travel for two, a seven-night stay, rental car use and a candlelight dinner provided by Pleasant Holidays and The Idea Travel Company. To enter, a contestant simply submits an original, G-rated love story of 100-500 words containing the word "Hawaii." Stories can be submitted online at the Hawaii State Vacation Planner website (www.bestplaceshawaii.com) or via regular mail at Love Stories, 1351 Kuhio Hwy., Kapaa, HI 96746. Official Rules and all the details are also on the website or can be obtained by mailing a self-addressed stamped envelope to Love Stories, 1351 Kuhio Hwy., Kapaa, HI 96746.
On the website, visitors can submit their own love stories and read love stories from others in a dozen different categories including First Love, Long Distance Love, Romance, Second Chance Love, Secret Love, Summer Romance, Timeless Love, First Meeting, Holiday, Special Occasion, Marriage, and Wedding.
