Love Stories of Hawaii

Timeless Love

True Love
Dedicated to Chris

Submitted by Maureen

I came to Hawaii to get away from him. We had had the most horrible argument. I spent the long beautiful days basking in the sun, trying to forget the pain, his chiseled face, his incredible compassion.

What did we fight about? It's all such a blur. We were eating dinner and the next think I know, I am at the airport, waiting to board a plane. I had no luggage, just my pocketbook. Now I am in Hawaii.

I called him when I got here 3 nights ago and he has not called me. I am getting angry again. I remember. The argument, it was about her. My so called best friend. I saw them together that day. They were at the shopping district together. I saw him. I saw him brush the hair from her face as his lips gently brushed her cheek! How could he? How could she? I walked to the store they had been shopping in, it was the diamond importer. How could I be so blind? How could they do this to me. His not returning my call confirmed my what I suspected.

The beautiful sunny day was now turning into night. I gathered my belongings to head back to the hotel. The warm breezes coming off the ocean were enchanting. The colors of the sunset were unlike anything I have ever seen. The intense reds, oranges and pinks turning beginning to turn purple as the sun fell into the ocean on the other side of the island. I was hypnotised by it. Somehow, it put me at peace.

As I turned to walk back to my hotel, I saw him standing there. He had tears in his eyes.

"I have been looking for you all over," he said. "I thought I lost you."

I asked him what he was doing there and why he hadn't called me.

He said, "I tried to call you but you left the wrong number. I was able to track you to the island, but I have been looking for you for 3 days. I was about to give up when I walked onto the beach to see the amazing sunset. Then, you were here."

Tears now streamed from his eyes. I was so moved and so in love, but I had to ask, "What about Kelly?"

"Kelly?" he asked as he wiped away the tears. Now, somewhat stoic, he asked, "What is this sudden jealousy you have for Kelly?"

I told him what I saw, tears beginning to well in my eyes when it happened. He took a small package out of his pocket and said, "Kelly came with me to pick out something for you, silly. Who else would I go to for something this important.

That's when he dropped to his knee and asked, "Leah, will you marry me?"

With the warmth of the breeze and all the blazing beauty of that sunset, I knew it was true love. He came for me, he loved ME! I am his one and only.
