Love Stories of Hawaii

Aloha Love
Dedicated to My Wife Lisa

Submitted by Joel

I can not conceive of a more perfect place than Hawaii. My first step off of the jet to begin internship I encountered the soothing smell of plumeria. My first ride to the windward side of Oahu I encountered distant waterfalls snaking like glittering ribbons into lush green rain forest. My first day after being on-call I encountered a stress relieving sailboat ride and the sea spray of Kaneohe Bay. My first ride to Wainae I encountered the sublime flavor of Huli-Huli chicken sold from a roadside barbecue. I have so many wonderful memories of Hawaii that it is difficult to crystallize them in writing. In truth, what should have been one of the most stressful years of my life, turned out to be the most rewarding, memorable and significant. That is because on my first visit to a little church in Kailua, I encountered my beautiful wife Lisa.

After church that day we went on our first date. Lunch, scuba diving near the Witches Brew at Hanauma Bay, and dinner at her place in Kailua. Over the ensuing months we enjoyed more beautiful sunsets, together. We enjoyed starlit dinners, together. We experienced all the adventure that Hawaii had to offer, together. Lisa and I had been waiting a long time to find eachother and both credit God's sense of humor with sending us far away from home so we could finally be, together. We were married at Haiku Gardens on the windward side roughly seven months after our first date. Although we no longer live in Hawaii, we still consider it to be our home. Every new place that we have moved, we always compare to that wonderful first year in Hawaii. It's hardly fair, is it? What place can compare with Hawaii?
