My True Island Love Dedicated to Jesse Gould Submitted by Rebecca My first love happened to be when I was the ripe old age of 12. I attended a Waldorf school on the Island of Hawaii in Keau. At my school life was very different then most, I went to school barefoot for one thing, for another my aunt was my teacher. It was here in this strange school I fell in love. He was someone untouchable to me, a person I could look at and wish to be friends with but he rarely even glanced my way. His name was Jesse. I once told my sister my feelings for this young boy, well she betrayed my trust and told him one day at school.....he responded by saying "never". I was crushed... I think that was the worst day of my life. We were leaving the Island of Hawaii to start a new life in Walla Walla Washington... I wrote a note to Jesse and tucked it in a secret place in the house I was leaving...it was my way of preserving a love that never was. It might still be there to this day. I never saw Jesse again. Someone told me he is still living on the island in Hilo. Maybe one day we will talk again, if I ever find my self a way to the Big Island, I have never been back.
