A Lifetime to Remember
Dedicated to The Love Of My Life

Submitted by Colleen

I am sitting alone in the house, with the clock ticking in the background, waiting for that magical moment when we can be together again. Sometimes it seems like forever from the time he leaves in the morning until he returns. I know it isn't, but there are days that it sure feels like forever. It's hard to believe that he has been a part of my life for over 25 years. People see us together and ask if we are newlyweds. We look at each other, smile, and say ‘yes, for 25 years'. The idea that we still appear as newlyweds to others is amazing. We can feel our love but I never imagined that it showed to others.

When I see an older couple walking together, holding hands, and sending each other that gentle caressing look I have to smile and reach for my husband's hand. Then, as we walk further along I notice that other couples begin holding hands and I realize that we are one of those older couples now. Not that we are old yet, but to some of the young couples it must seem like it. It is sad to think that so few marriages last as long as ours has. What happened to the love they shared in the beginning? What turned that love to hate and hurt?

It takes time, commitment, work, and support to keep a marriage going. Love is not an easy emotion to embrace, but none is more fulfilling. Certain places seem to bring the romance out in people. Hawaii is such a place. Hawaii is full of romance, but without love the romance will wither and die. Love endures the bad times as well as the good; it is there on romantic getaways as well as during the day to day challenges of life. Romance is a wonderful addition to love, but it can not stand alone. If your love can withstand the everyday things, then think how much more special being in Hawaii together can be. You can fall in love all over again in Hawaii - remember the little things that endear him to you, forgive the flaws that are there - since they are outnumbered by the other facets of his personality. He may be a diamond in the rough, but the gem is still there if you look.

I look forward to a lifetime with you - to remember all the joys and sorrows that we share, to create more memories, and to love and cherish you as we grow old together.
