Rocky Road to Hawaii! Dedicated to My loving husband, Richard Clarke Submitted by Betty Many, many years ago my husband and I decided that a trip to Hawaii would be the perfect way to celebrate a 25th anniversary (assuming we made it that long!). However, what with running a business, making house payments and raising two teriffic children, somehow we never actually got around to planning or saving for it. In addition, as sometimes happens in life, we found ourselves trying to work full time, raise the kids and helping to care for my aging parents. 25 years later we happily celebrated our first- born's wedding day. Later they were able to travel to Hawaii and I wished them Happy Trails. No Silver Celebration for me, though and no Hawaii -- as two years later my husband and I parted. I loved the single life and planned to stay that way, but after four years found myself walking down the aisle to the loving arms of a man whom I'd known for 35 years! NO, we didn't honeymoon in Hawaii -- but we thought it a great idea, and started saving up, made plans, and almost bought the tickets! Again, another bump on my road to Hawaii -- cancer struck and Hawaiian plans were put on hold. Five months later I've finished radiation treatments, am feeling fit and sassy, and our travel agent has booked us for 11 nights -- in Hawaii! Look out World, here we come!
