Love Stories of Hawaii

Romance

A soldiers journey for love
Dedicated to Ivan

Submitted by Anonymous

It was back in October 2004 when I was on my own in a town, working every day, living a life of a routine, but was happy and proud of who I was and what I become. I always felt as though I wanted more in my life, to love someone and for them to love me and to potentially have a family one day. It is something I always dreamnt of, but always knew it would have to be with "the right" person. Most women dream of their knight in shining armor taking us away and living happily ever after. Of course living in this century, it doesn't quite happen that way. At least, I never thought it would.

I had met a lot of people while being single, just having fun and trying to stay busy. Most of my friends were signing up for websites, some dating sites and others just to meet new friends. I decided to join which made it more convinient for me to interact with people I met over a weekend.

October 2004 I received an email from a stranger who's picture came up to look as though he was foreign, but it wasn't a pleasant picture, it startled me. His head was wrapped in a sheet and looked like he came from the middle east. At that time, there was a lot of turmoil outside the country, which 9-11 had a lot to do with making the U.S. worry of what was going to happen next. I clicked on the picture in the website and to my surprise, the most beautiful man was in a military uniform. He had several pictures, some with other friends in the military and in various locations, Hawaii etc. I read his profile, he sounded extremely intelligent, proud, strong, but sincere in what he wrote. It intrigued me. I didn't normally email people I did not know, but I sent him a note anyways and received a response the next day. I found out that this man is residing in Iraq fighting for what he believed in. The more we wrote, the more we found out about each other, his base is in San Diego, he used to live in the valley by my home, he's a normal average guy who likes to do outdoor activities, he's 33 years old, never been married, never had children and wanted that someday. We wrote for 4 months straight and there were times that I didn't hear from him for days even weeks and the more I got to know him, the more it scared me that someone who is so much like me, compliments me could be out of my life in a matter of seconds.

One day, in the middle of the night, I received a phone call, it was him! I finally was able to hear his voice, what he sounded like, his personality and laughter and the smile in his words. I felt honored to know him and what he stood for, but most of all to know that his is just a regular guy who wanted someone to care for him too. He was busy fighting in Iraq and not able to think about himself, but I was thinking about him...all the time.

He volunteered to stay in Iraq longer then expected, but after he met me, he wanted to come home. It was communicated to me that he would be coming home in February 2005. At this point things in Iraq, at least for his unit had died down and he was able to contact me and let me know that the first thing is going to do is to meet me in person. There was nothing at this point that would ever stop me from meeting the person that I actually fell in love with. February 6th 2005, I received a call from Ivan who told me he is home!!!!!!! He came straight to my house, in uniform, no shower...showed up and gave me the biggest hug and kiss ever. He held me tight and I didn't want to let go.

It is now May 23rd, 2005 and we are still together. Our plans for the future are bright and I have a soldier who is in love with me, treats me like a queen and is an extremely proud man for the life he leads. I am so happy that I have met someone who is a positive person, lives life to the fullest and does everything he can to make the best with what he has. He loves what he does for his country because it will be safe for me and my family with him doing his job. That's what he tells me.

Ivan is my love who found me and I am never letting him go!
