Love Stories of Hawaii

Long Distance Love

A Soldier's Paradise
Dedicated to Soldiers and their wives everywhere

Submitted by Kelly

There was never any doubt, we were going to get there. We'd saved and planned and planned and saved for our honeymoon, 2 years belated since he'd been stationed overseas. We'd both agreed immediately on Hawaii as the most romantic destination we could imagine. The gorgeous beaches and lush vegetation beckoned me all the way from our Midwestern home and him all the way from the desert in Iraq.

I left Chicago on a blustery, snowy morning. The 4 hours on the runway, the repeated deicings, the cranky passengers, were all worth it--I was on my way to paradise to see my one true love! As the plane finally soared into the winter sky, I settled into my chair, closed my eyes and envisioned my husband's handsome, smiling face and the sights, the smells, the tastes of the islands.

My husband flew out from Germany and overnighted in California. The fog had been thick the day before, but that morning it was clear and beautiful, a good omen for the 2 weeks to come.

When we were finally reunited on Hawaii the next day, we hadn't seen each other for almost 7 months and still considered ourselves newlyweds since we'd been apart for most of our married lives. My husband never looked so good and true paradise never seemed closer.
