Blessing in Disguise Dedicated to Matt Diemer Submitted by Joanna She wore a blue summer dress with little white flowers. He saw her standing in line laughing with her friends. Then she turned around, made eye contact with him, and told him she liked his shirt. His eyes sparkled as he looked her up and down. With a hint of a smile he replied, "I like your dress." Later that week, at their small town university, she saw him in class, sat down next to him, and struck up a conversation. Their friendship grew from there and eventually turned into a deep love. They were able to laugh together easily. They were able to have fun in the bitter cold of Indiana winters. They were able to dream about their future together. They dreamed of a big wedding with family and friends from near and far in attendance. They dreamed of their honeymoon in Hawaii, laying on white sandy beaches, swimming in the warm turquoise waters, eating a fresh cut pineapple. They dreamed of the successful careers they would have, and they dreamed of having children together. Unfortunately, their last dream came before their first. The girl found out she was pregnant and everything else came so quickly that dreams had to be set aside. So there was no big wedding, only a small ceremony. Gone was the honeymoon in Hawaii. Career goals had to be altered, and for the girl, college was cut short. About six months later came the apple of their eye, a precious son. Many years have come and gone and the boy and girl are still in love. In love with each other and in love with their little family. They endured through all of the financial trouble and limited resources. Even though their life is not as they once dreamed, it is a happy love-filled life. This story is about my husband and I. Our true-life love story is not finished and will continue to unfold. One thing is for certain, what we once thought was a problem, we now know was a "blessing in disguise". Early parenthood brought us closer together and now with two children, our love will continue to grow.
