As I lay back in my easy chair my mind drifts to days long ago. Suddenly my mind is filled with memories so vivid that I can almost smell the salty air. It is a fragrance that I loved so much as a child.
I remember my first encounter with the ocean. My fathers friend loaned our family their cabin on the beach at galveston. Wonderful days were filled exploring the secrets of the beach and finding colorful seashells. Gigging with my dad at night. Watching the swells of water come in, crashing on the sandy shores, it was mesmerizing. As I lay on my bed listening to the waves and feeling the ocean breeze, the awesomeness of it all was thrilling.
We returned many times to surf crab and picnic on the beach. As I reached my teen years Dad would take me to the cafes on the sea wall to eat fresh seafood. We always got a window table so we could see the ocean as we ate. Sadly pollution took it's toll on the gulf and our excursions to the beach ceased.
It has been over forty years since I have been back to the ocean. The joy of those days has stayed with me over the years as I busily raised my five children. Through the years I have seen Hawaii in many moveies like Magnum PI, the Discovery Channel, in magazines and brochures. The waves and lush vegetation tantalized me.
How my heart longs to walk on your beautiful unspoiled beaches. I am filled with excitement at the thought of exploring your secrets. Some day my sweet Hawaii I hope my feet will walk on your pristine shores. Then I will feel your ocean breezes blow through my hair. I will gaze at your awesome beauty and your waves will captivate my heart. Some day....
