Love Stories of Hawaii

Romance

A moment like this
Dedicated to Dorian

Walking along the sun-drenched beach, feeling the warm sand between my oh-so-soft toes and the ocean-fresh breeze blowing back my golden curls, I couldn't imagine living anywhere as great as Maui, Hawaii. I paused on the beach, squinting my intense sapphire-stoned eyes to admire the tan, burly body of a gorgeous guy darting through the clear water clutching onto a surf board. As he flopped onto his long board and paddled under the rip curls making his way past the current, I caught eye contact. My heart was beating so fast as if it was about to explode. My eyes lost all tension like a puppy in love. But, was it love? This was all happening so fast. My body felt restless, as though I was in slow motion but my mind, on the other hand must have been assessing about a thousand different thoughts… of him. I couldn't help but stare. It was the same stare you get when your mind goes blank and you are focused on one thing without knowing. I was focused on him, but my mind wasn't blank, there was a stampede of ideas flowing of how I might approach him. As soon as I caught my breath, I pulled myself together. He caught the next wave and rode it into the shore like a cloud floating through the air. He glanced my way once more before performing a back-flip off the board. As he stood up the water dribbled off his smooth shoulders and chest and his spiky hair was full of water beads. He grabbed the board and jogged out of the water. He was headed for me. My next thought, someone pinch me! This is too perfect to be true. Trying not to look too anxious or overexcited, I confidently smiled. The next few days were a blur. We spent hours laying on the beach talking, reminiscing and devouring each others every word. Every night was a candlelit dinner with the most beautiful elegant music and low-key setting. We danced as if no one was watching, we laughed as if no one could hear, we held each other as if the night was our last. Each moment I spent with him was a gift. He was perfect, as if God had blessed me with an angel. What had I done to deserve this moment with him? I cherished every second with him for the next eight days. On day nine, it hit me like a ton of bricks, my plane was leaving in 3 hours. How could I bare to step on that plane knowing the love of my life was staying. This was my paradise. As he walked my to Gateway 49 for my plane I knew my future was on the line. I stopped, turned and laid my silky hands on his jaw bones. Tears of joy began flowing because I knew what I wanted all along. I began to speak of how I'd never felt the was I did that past week and I knew I never would. I told him nothing back home could compare to the bond we shared in such short time and the love which lingered between us. I spoke to him in such sincere beauty I'd surprised myself and before I could finish he too was engaged in glazed eyes of contentment. Saying nothing, he leaned in and proceeded with the most passionate kiss. With our bodies pressed, I could feel his heartbeat. We held each other until the plane for Gateway 49 disappeared.
