Amidst the Crowd Dedicated to Andrew Submitted by Rachel Although there were thousands of people there, it felt like just the two of us. We came to this summertime celebration with many friends, but we slowly lost them as we descended into the crowd to listen to the music being played by the band. To be honest I can't remember what the band was playing. I was too engaged in him. We had only been dating a month, but it felt like I knew him my whole life. We hadn't said the three important words, but I wanted to say them, and I needed to say them that night, but when? We sat down in the cool summer grass. I had on white pants, but didn't care if they got dirty or not. People were racing by us, but the background seemed to melt together and disappear. Our eyes barely left each other. "If you could be anywhere with me right now, where would it be," he asked. "Lying on a beach in Hawaii," I replied dreamily. "That sounds nice," he said, then gently kissed my lips. Our eyes never left each other's and I knew in my heart he was feeling the same thing as me. All of a sudden the band stopped and we knew it was time to look for our friends, but the words had not been spoken. We got up slowly and I walked in front of him through the crowd. Instinctively I turned around and wrapped my arms around his neck and clumsily blurted, "I love you." He held me tight and said the same. That was the first of a million I love you's we've shared. I will always remember that night we shared amidst the crowd.
