My Hawaiian Love Story Dedicated to My Loving Husband Submitted by Molly I met Pete in 1997. His roommate was an old friend of mine. He and I just had such a great time together. For once, I just didn't have to work at it. We vacationed in Hawaii, we dined in great restaurants, we just spent time together, and had such a great time. We dated for a year, and we're headed to a black tie event in Washington, DC on a Saturday night. I called him at work on the prior Thursday to tell him about this gorgeous black dress I found for the event. He said, "That's great, but I've been thinking. I don't think we're headed in the same direction, and I don't think we should date anymore." Yes, he dumped me over the phone. I was devastated! I hung up and told my roommates, and they said not to worry, that he just needed a couple of days because he was probably scared. Well, I was just heartbroken. I didn't want to even get out of bed. I didn't see him or hear from him for the next couple of months. So, after feeling sorry for myself, I had to get a grip on things, and move on. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be. So, I did just that. I dated all of Washington DC, and started travelling like crazy. I just started enjoying life again. I learned how to ski, and was skiing in Colorado with my roommate, her boyfriend, and a guy I was dating 10 months after Pete dumped me. I called to check my messages and there was a message from Pete saying, "Hi, Molly, I was just calling to see how you were doing, I haven't heard from you in a while. Give me a call." I did not have time to deal with him, so I said a few, not-so-nice words, and went back to having fun with my date. I finally called Pete a month later. We got together for lunch and caught up on things. He then asked me on 2 more dates for dinner. Finally on date number 3, I asked him what he wanted, and what he was doing. With tears in his eyes, he said he made a mistake and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I flipped out, dated him and others for 3 months, and then made a commitment. We were engaged 3 months later, and had the most beautiful, romantic wedding on the beach in Hawaii in 2000. Our relationship is so wonderful and amazing, just like our favorite vacation destination, HAWAII!
