Summer Escape Dedicated to My boys Submitted by Shannon My grant had finally been approved. I was finally going to get to go to Hawaii and study the beautiful Hibicus plant. Being a horticultural major, this was a dream come true. Not only did I get to study this beautiful plant up close, but I also got a vacation to the most beautiful place on earth. When my plane landed and I stepped out, I smelled the most beautiful aroma and realized that it is just as I had always pictured it in my mind everytime I had checked the internet for travel packages, or thumbed through the tattered brochure that was falling apart due to the many times I had cracked the cover just to gaze at the pictures. When I checked in my hotel, I couldn't wait to put on my swimsuit and just lounge by the pool to wash away the many hours of jetlag. That's where we met, Kevin and I. The minute that our eyes locked, I knew I had to get to know this man. He was tall and handsome and had blue eyes that could burn right through you. I didn't make the best impression as our meeting was due to my spilling a drink all over him while he was tanning, tiny umbrellas and all!! That night we dined, talked about our dreams and danced until we went to watch the sun rise and the tide roll away. Two days later when it was time to leave, I was heartbroken. Would I ever see this man again? When I entered the lobby to check out there was Kevin, down on one knee with Hibicus plants all around him and a small tiny box. They say you know when it is love at first sight and this was. That was 10 years ago and we have been together ever since. I thank my lucky stars every day not only for the lovely Hibiscus plant that brought us together, but also that I am clumsy and unable to balance a drink well!!
