Is The Honeymoon Over?
Dedicated to My first love, Mike

Submitted by Kim

I have never thrown my lei out to sea. "There's a legend. If they float in toward shore, you'll come back someday. If they float out to sea, you won't." (From Here to Eternity) I'm superstitious. What if my lei didn't float toward shore? I decided before leaving for Hawaii, that I must not toss the lei into the ocean.

On our honeymoon, a Hawaiian tour guide told me, "You know the honeymoon is over when you ask your husband if you look OK and he says yes without even looking at you." Everyone on the tour bus laughed, including me. Life couldn't change that much for us, I was sure of that. I have to say we did make it quite a long time before the honeymoon was over. It came to a crashing halt with all of life's stresses.

This summer will be our 15th wedding anniversary and I'd love to take him back to Hawaii. We have changed a lot over the years. I'll be honest, not all of the changes have been good ones, but we are still in love. If given the chance would I throw my lei out this time? No, that's one thing that hasn't changed.
