Awakening Dedicated to My beloved Submitted by Andrew Summer of '63 was a time of impatience. I was 15, longing to be 16 and behind the wheel. My parents dropped my off at John's house so we could use the pool together. He was my best friend and he had a sister a year older than me. His parents were divorced and I hadn't seen her much. She had been pudgy and small the year before but here she was, now, so different. Brian Wilson's falsetto had lifted me as high as I thought I could go, until that day. We were drying off inside when John turned on the stereo. Until then, I hadn't really appreciated "Surfer Girl'' -- or realized how good it felt to slow dance with one. By the time the Beach Boys were extolling the virtues of the waves in the islands, I knew life would never be the same. I knew then that anyone who experiences "Hawaii'' would come back with nothing but raves.
