Birthday Girl Dedicated to Larry W. Washington Submitted by Mary My husband and I met on Friday, October 7,1967 at 12:00 P.M. He was looking for a date for his roommate for that night. It was his roommate's birthday. They were standing near the college campus post office that the three of us were attending at the time (Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA). My husband's job was to spot a pretty girl from a distance, then check with his roommate to see if he was interested in going out with her before my husband stopped her to ask if she wanted to go out on a date with his roomate that night. His roommate took one look at me and said, "Heavens no, She is not my type! She is far too light. I don't like light skinned girls." However, my husband thought I was cute and decided to stop me for himself. Three months later we were married and have been together for the past 36 and a half years. We recently retired and would just love to travel to Hawaii. He worked as a deputy sheriff for thirty years and I worked as a teacher for thirty-three years. Hawaii would certainly be the crowning jewel of our career.
