Our Lucky Valentine's Day. Dedicated to My husband, Christopher Submitted by Heidi When my husband and I were stationed in South Korea for the Air Force, we were sent to different bases. We spent the majority of the year apart. Then came February and we both were able to take vacation. We needed some romantic alone-time to reconnect. We decided to try to catch a ride on a military transport to where else? Romantic Hawaii. We got to Japan, no problem. But we were stuck in Japan for almost an entire day. We kept our spirits up, knowing we would eventually get there. Finally, there was a small transport going and we got on it. It was a long, noisy ride but once we landed and saw the landscape, the ocean and the beauty we forgot all about our aching backs and ears. We didn't make any kind of hotel reservations. I know, pretty dumb but we were new to this travel thing. However, we quickly found a beautiful room with a view at the Miramar Hotel and we got the room for only $70 a night. We could not believe our luck. Then we decided to try our luck again and try to get reservations at a restaurant on the beach for that night, Valentine's Day night. We called everyone in town. They were all booked. It seemed hopeless but we kept calling. We finally got a hold of Duke's. They said they would allow walk-ins at opening, 5pm, only. We decided to go. We got to Duke's that evening and we were seated at a wonderful table overlooking the ocean. Again, luck was on our side. It was a spectacular view. We had an intimate, relaxed dinner. Then, just as we were looking over the dessert menu, the sun started to set. We could not believe our luck again, to be able to view the most gorgeous, romantic sunset we had ever seen and it was Valentine's Day! It was a day and a trip we won't soon forget. We hope to go back to Hawaii one day. She will always have a special place in our hearts.
