The First Kiss Dedicated to my best friend Joanne Submitted by Sheri It was hard to believe that we were finally ready to go camping. Five girls, a huge tent, and tons of food. We were sure that we had forgotten something! Thank goodness we were leaving dreary Seattle and heading for Eastern Washington where it was 90 degrees in the shade. We wanted to go to Hawaii but none of us had the money or the time. Lake Chelan was only 4 hours away. We were planning to relax, work on our tans, listen to music, and drink a few beers. And if we met some guys, that would be icing on the cake. We pulled into the State Park and found a great campsite. Close to the bathrooms, with a huge picnic table and no little kids around. It was hilarious watching us put up our tent. We finally managed to set it up between trips to the bathroom and the picnic table for munchies. We ended up laughing so hard we almost wet our pants! But our tent was there to stay and so were we. Party weekend, here we come. Great tunes, a chocolate cake and chips, and Hello! Two guys with a boat just pulled into the camp spot next to ours. One too many beers and Joanne's beautiful smile was dazzling and she was bolder than normal. She introduced herself to Dave and Jim. They stood transfixed momentarily, not quite sure of what to say but not wanting Jo to leave their campsite. But one thing lead to another and before long we were all hanging out in our campsite talking like old friends! By that evening we were pretty sure that Jo and Dave would be in need of some privacy. Her eyes twinkled when she looked at him and he was definantly showing off. Five of us took a fast ride over the shimmering smooth water, laughing and bouncing along. As we pulled into shore, Dave and Jo walked hand in hand oblivious to the rest of us. We could see their embrace in the moonlight and knew that love had blossomed before our eyes. The next morning in the bathroom, Jo and I were talking quietly after a quick and lukewarm shower. Jo told me that she would remember their first kiss for as long as she lived, even if they didn't end up together. My pulse quickened when she described their bodies touching, his hands holding her face, Dave looking deep into her eyes. She said they could hardly breath they were so excited and that when their lips finally touched, every part of her body melted into a big, mushy puddle. Our weekend passed too quickly with Jo and Dave falling all over each other at every opportunity. I kept thinking about that amazing first kiss and hoped that their lives would be forever filled with quickened pulses and first kisses.
