My soldier Dedicated to A.J. Youssef Submitted by Katie It was a chance meeting. A marine visiting the coffee shop where I worked in Kailua, Hawaii. He came in and wrote me a letter in Arabic. Then he was gone. But he came back, and back again. We grew to be friends and he told me stories of the war. We danced the night away and did body shots at a club named Scruples. We kayaked together, watched the sunsets, played soccer in cute little shorts. I even left my boyfriend to be with A.J., my marine. Who would have known he was a dancer? Well, he was MY dancer, for that summer at least. Now he is nowhere to be found, but he will always be my eyes, life, and soul.
