Summer Romance

Sealed With a Kiss
Dedicated to Tyler Grosline

Submitted by Megan

I hate weddings. They are so boring; it's the same thing over and over. The only reason I went to Kathy's wedding was because it was in Hawaii. (Hey, a tan for summer would be nice.) I never expected anything exciting to happen.

I noticed him when I became bored at the ceremony. My eyes drifted around the church and there he was. Dark brown hair combed forward with gel, tan olive skin, a colorful blue and green Hawaiian shirt, khaki cargo shorts and a puca shell necklace. I couldn't see his eyes, but I imagined they were green. Maybe the reception could get better....

I wasn't really in the mood to dance. Not like I was any good at it. I'd rather be a wallflower. I always felt like a marionette without strings when I danced. I couldn't keep my eyes off of him and he noticed. A slow song started to play as the DJ announced, "Go on. Ask that special someone you want to dance with." There he was, walking my way. Just seeing him come closer with that smile of confidence on his face got me so excited I could hardly breathe. He asked if I wanted to dance. I CAN'T DANCE!

"No, thanks." I replied as I wondered if it was possible to kick myself at that time. His shoulders dropped with disappointment. "No, wait...I think I will dance." I didn't know I had that much courage! Smiling with his hand in mine, he led me to the dance floor.

Our names fit so well: Reese and BreAnne. Oh, it sounded so perfect together! He was slightly taller than I was, my head at his shoulder. I found myself lost in his BROWN eyes. After the song, I didn't want to let go of him. "Follow me," he whispered.

He led me out to the beach, just as the sun was beginning to set. He found a place to sit in the sand, but I found it more comfortable to sit on his lap instead. We held each other as the sun melted into the water. I heard a myth once about a green spark that appears when the sun sets along the water's edge meaning good luck. I was happy to see it proven that night. We continued to talk quietly and I felt like I knew him forever.

When it became dark, we headed back to the party. Things were closing up so Reese and I said our good-byes. We promised never to forget each other and sealed it with a kiss.

Maybe it's the wedding ceremony I don't like; the receptions aren't that bad!
