Love Stories of Hawaii

Wedding

The Garden Isle
Dedicated to Mandy Kauai Gollay

Submitted by Randy

Everyone we knew told us our marriage would not last. Even our parents discouraged us but relented and finally gave us their blessings. It was love at first sight for us. It continues fifteen years later. Our wedding was graced by 342 guests and we danced to our theme song- Through the Eyes of Love. Little did I know then, what I know now and what I would need to know later. We followed our dream with a honeymoon in Hawaii, first in Kauai and then to Maui. After a long flight and drive at night we reached our rented condo in Princeville. Exhausted, we cuddled, kissed, and fell asleep. When we awoke, the beauty of Kauai blew us away. The mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. This had to be why the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” came about. To this day, I can see clear as a bell the beauty that surrounded me (my wife and the Garden Isle). I have always wanted to return and add to that beauty. To make a long story short, my wife developed multiple sclerosis, I have had a miraculous recovery from lyphoma, and we struggled for ten years with infertility treatments and adoption. Because I was over forty and because my wife is in a wheelchair, all our options seemed closed. We are survivors and our persistence paid heavy dividends when we were granted special permission to adopt from China. I spent two weeks there and brought back our 10-month, 11-pound daughter to my wife. She didn't know how to smile or laugh. We named her Mandy KAUAI Gollay to allow her to blossom. Her beauty blossomed to a vibrant personality. I would be honored to show her where we gave her her name.
