Summer Romance

Pool of Love
Dedicated to Love's Life Force

Submitted by Sire

Last summer, we met at one of the best beaches in the world -- Anini Beach on the island of Kauai, the most ancient of all the islands in Hawaii. In some spots at Anini, you can walk out about 100 yards and still have water up only to your knees because the reef is so far off shore.

Once, I was wading in a naturally-formed, small and shallow ocean pool near shore, meditating in a buoyant state at sunrise on this east-facing beach. Into the pool, she slipped, right next to me and said, "Hello, would you like me to talk or remain silent?"

I said, "Being silent would be nice for now. Thanks for asking."

She said, "No worries. Just let me know when you would like me to speak again."
I acknowledged her and we floated in a meditative state for about a half-hour during sunrise, occasionally bumping into each other from the gentle ocean movement. Eventually, I spoke first, "Who are you?"

She said, "That's what you need to learn to see if I'm the one for you. I think I am, because I was drawn into the pool with you. I do not normally or ever do this, but something tugged at me. Are you sorry?"

"No, not at all," I said, "Just the opposite."

"Good," she said, relieved, pleased, and then added, "Then explore me- my body, my mind, my spirit."

"That could take years," I said.

"Oh, I hope so," she said.

As the day unfolded into night, I did indeed explore her body, her mind, and her spirit and she mine. We continued the exploration for the entire summer that we spent at Anini, sometimes at her vacation rental, sometimes at my condo, sometimes at the beach, and everywhere in between. By the end of the summer, we had shed several layers of each other, getting closer to each other's core. Only then did I realize that she was sent to me to serve me and I to care for her, something that each of us needed and wanted.

Though the summer ended, the romance never did. We are still together today and every year we make a pilgrimage to our special wading pool on Anini Beach to meditate and re-engage each other and the re-ignite the spark between the life force within each of us. Now she serves me every day in every way I want -- every way -- and I care for her in every way she wants -- every way. Allowing her to serve me fulfills her. Caring for her fulfills me. We would have it no other way. She intensely serves me. Service is her greatest contribution and joy. So, I permit her to serve. I wish I could share with you the ways she shows her appreciation. I will leave that to your imagination, though I hope you have a vivid one -- she does.

She slipped into the pool of my life one summer long ago and has stayed in my heart forever more.
