Hawaiian Heat Dedicated to Lovers Everywhere Submitted by Lu She needed an escape that winter from the dreariness. She rummaged through travel brochures, but found nothing that captured her fancy. So, she went online to bestplaces and voila! She was taken by a photograph of Maui's tropical gardens. She loved her garden and she knew that the gardens of Hawaii would be exquisite. "Just this once," she said audibly to the cat who looked at her. She dialed the number on the screen and in 15 minutes she had booked a trip to Maui. She decided to stay in Kannapali and rent a car to see the island. It was in one of those gardens that she met him. Tall and dark with skin like liquid velvet. He was Samoan, tall, almost 6 ft., straight back, midnight jet black hair. She watched him move along the well-manicured paths as he took in the heady perfume of the flowers. She noticed that just as she was watching him, he was her. She pretended not to notice, but as luck would have it, they caught each other's glances at the moment she bent to touch a Hawaiian Heat plant. "They are beautiful," he said. "Oh, yes," she gushed. "What are they called?" "They are in the Anthurium family, called Hawaiian Heat." "Yes," she said, as she felt her own heat rising. "A very erotic flower, don't you think?" "Yes." "I don't think we are allowed to touch, but there should be no punishment for touching anything of beauty, don't you agree?" "Yes, yes, I do," she agreed. She could not help but agree with this most gracious gentleman. "Perhaps, you will allow me to call on you while you are here on vacation?" In ordinary time, and on an ordinary day her answer would be no. "Yes, that would be lovely," she blurted, thinking was it really she that just spoke those words. "Where are you staying?" "At the Kannapali Beach." "Shall I pick you up for lunch, tomorrow at noon?" "That would be lovely." He smiled at her, and she knew in that smile there was the promise of an adventure. "I must be going, but tomorrow I will call on you." She fussed all that morning trying to decide what to wear. Finally she decided on a simple black sheath. He met her with a spray of Hawaiian Heat flowers. "I didn't want you to forget what brought us together." They idled the afternoon away, and that night he took her dancing. As he moved her around the floor, he whispered, "You are lovely, my girl." Her week's vacation quickly flew by . The day she was to leave was bittersweet. He took her to the airport, and held her to the last minute. "You will be back," he told her. "Sure," she said half-heartedly. She was greeted at the door by a floral arrangement of Hawaiian Heats and a one-way ticket back to Maui. "Come be mine," said the card on the flowers. "Yes," she said outloud. "Yes."
