The Best Day of My Life--a True Story
Dedicated to my wife Lynn & daughter Kora

Submitted by Kim

As I sit here at the kitchen table, I peer out the bay window over the blanket of freshly fallen snow and find myself daydreaming of my wife Lynn and our precious daughter Kora. It seems like only yesterday the three of us were relaxing on a warm and sandy Maui beach in Hawaii - a scene I find filling my thoughts quite often. Our zest for a family had delayed our honeymoon until we had our first child. Kora was only 6 months old, so new to the world and yet already taking in her first tropical getaway, just like her mom and dad. This day was as special as every other day had been since the birth of our little 7 pounder, another beautiful day. It all began after 12 years of marriage, without the faintest glimmer of children as we had so zealously desired. To the most humble degree of gratitude, the much anticipated miraculous event came in the early morning on the 10th day of July, 1997. Nothing in this world had or may ever grasp my soul and overwhelm my heart with such joy than this day, easily making for what was the happiest day of my life. Never had our lives been so touched and our love so deepened, thanks to this delightful third wheel, which will always be a much welcomed part of our being. Unbelievably, only 10 months prior to this wonderful day, the two of us had embarked on a trip to Japan. A four-week extended business stay with the opportunity to enjoy the sights during spare time and the chance to share the adventure with my best friend and eternal love, my beautiful wife Lynn. Plenty of sushi, crowded trains and the excitingly vibrant culture had added to our fun, but had also taken its toll on Lynn over the last week of our trip. Her feelings of nauseousness and fainting had prompted us to leave 2 days early. Upon our arrival home, we paid our doctor a visit. The diagnosis was a complete surprise: "You'r going to have a baby," and in light humor he added, "made in Japan." We looked at each other in disbelief, the news quickly turned to excitement with tears spilling from our eyes in appreciation. Again my thoughts continued to drift on this cold December day. How warm I feel with these wonderful memories, gifts of love and of life. How truly enduring is my love for my wife and daughter and how sincerely thankful I am for my family. From the time I touched Kora's tiny hand and cradled her in my arms, I honestly knew that love really has no bounds and can conquer all. My life has forever changed, and I know love is truly within everyone's reach, even as it is in mine.
