Age Doesn't Matter Dedicated to Paul Lee Submitted by Cecilia It was a tricky beginning. I was 23 and teaching in a private school in New York City just after completing graduate school. He was 19 and had just finished his first year of college. He's still a teenager! We were introduced by mutual volleyball buddies and that was the start. Who knew? Early one May Saturday at the Jersey Shore, he was with his doubles partner and I was with mine. He claims to have been staring at my legs. I don't remember much. Another day at the beach and he gets me a t-shirt with the gift certificate he won that day. What a nice guy, I'm thinking. He doesn't even know me. A couple of movies with popcorn and raspberry iced tea. Sushi at East. We discover that we would both love to honeymoon one day in Hawaii. They talk all the time. A great friendship is brewing. But does he like me? What do I think? He's still a teenager! After a few weeks, it's clear. He tries to hold my hand and I pretend to be sleeping. What should I do? I have no idea because he is still a teenager! BUT he is also such a great guy. The summer is over. We are 5 hours driving distance away. It is agony to be apart. Your typical long distance relationship. Our phone bills are shocking! We visit often, but it never seems to be enough. It's January. If we survive this year of being apart, we will never be apart again. We will last. He's still a teenager until February. Almost 5 years later, it's announced to the world. We both want to spend the rest of our lives together. And that means we both get our dream honeymoon in Hawaii. I love you, Paul.
