Love Stories of Hawaii

The Engagement Ring
Dedicated to My Husband

Submitted by Karen

During our dating years, my boyfriend, Mark, and I spent a lot of time going on mini vacations. We had always wanted to go to a tropical place, like Hawaii.

We planned a trip to the Island of Maui. When we arrived, it was incredible. We loved the balmy weather, cool breezes, swaying palm trees, and most of all the sunsets over the ocean!

One afternoon, we packed a picnic and decided to drive until we found a spot to watch the sunset. We found a great cliff view over the ocean. We got out our sandwiches and chips, and a bottle of champaigne. It was very romantic. I noticed Mark seemed a bit nervous. I thought something was up, and hoped he was thinking of popping the big question. It was the perfect moment.

He didn't. But that was ok, because I knew he loved me, and we were having a wonderful time.

The next night, as we were watching the sunset from our hotel lanai, he surprized me by getting down on his knee and proposing to me. I said yes, and he then slipped a coral ring on my finger he had bought at the convience store, for $4.50 earlier that afternoon. It was so romantic and sentimental. He said he wanted to ask me the night before, but he was too nervous and didn't have a ring.

I will always remember our trip to Maui, my coral engagement ring, and the love we have.

We now return to Maui with our children every year.
