Exploring: Kauai > Activities > On the Water > Kayaking
Humbled by the eye of the Humpback, we never tire of turning you on to the Technicolor splendor of Kaua'i's water majesty, where giant Green Sea Turtles drift amid darting neon streaks of tangs and wrasses.... Sea Kayaking In the summer, paddle beyond the verdant valley of Kalalau, past the arches of Honopu, and into the azure waters of a volcanic sea cave. Encounter dolphins, tropic birds and upon occasion, the elusive Monk seal. This will be a long, impressive day of warm coastal paddling and caving along the monumental Na Pali Coast with your island guide(s). During the winter when high surf conditions prevail on the north shores, your day's journey is on the golden coast of Kaua'i at Po'ipu. Paddle west along the rugged and scenic shoreline that is home to the Spouting Horn, the remote Lawai Valley, the unusual Nomilo Pond, and the cove of Wahi'awa. River Kayaking Kayak the scenic Hanalei River and Bay Reef Lagoon accompanied by charming water-borne natural historians on our three hour guided tour. Highlights are views of Bali Hai (Makana Peak), and the sweeping "South Pacific" panorama. Bird and turtle watch, snorkel for views of colorful reef fish. Wade by a sandy beach. The more adventurous can paddle out in a surf kayak. Our five-hour guided tour is a wonderful waterfall adventure for the whole family, combining idyllic paddling on the Wailua River and a hike to a remote bridal-veil waterfall. The Wailua River became the center of activity for early Hawaiians and is known as one of Hawaii's two most sacred places. The trail leading to our secret waterfall is a beautiful "greenhouse" where flowers, brooks and ferns abound. For paddling speed, ease, comfort, and safety, we use solely "sit-on-top" two person plastic sea kayaks with foot controlled rudders, equipped with comfortable and ample back rests that offer good back support.
